About
Baltimore Black Dance Collective Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dance advocacy organization rooted in action. We believe our true strength lies not only in the values we uphold, but in the tangible impact of our initiatives.

Founded in 2019, we recognized a critical gap in Baltimore’s arts ecosystem—the lack of representation and support for Black dance artists and companies. As Black dance artists ourselves, we knew it was time to reimagine what Baltimore’s arts scene could be: one that reflects the depth, diversity, and brilliance of Black dance across genres.
From seasoned professionals to emerging choreographers and young dancers at the start of their journey, we are committed to providing guidance, resources, and visibility. Together, we work to honor and preserve the legacy of Black dance while fostering its continued evolution for future generations.
"We weren't pushing Black is beautiful, we just showed it!"
~ Katherine Dunham
Our Mission
Baltimore Black Dance Collective (BBDC) is dedicated to empowering the Baltimore dance community by amplifying Black dance artists’ voices and actions. We work to address the lack of representation and support for Black dancers and companies in the local arts scene.

As Black dance artists, we are redefining Baltimore’s arts ecosystem by investing in and showcasing the talents of seasoned professionals, emerging artists, and youth across genres. Through classes, workshops, lectures, and performances, we provide opportunities for dancers, enthusiasts, and community members to connect in a vibrant, creative, and safe environment.
