Today, we mourn the passing of Judith Jamison—a beacon of grace, strength, and wisdom in dance. She was not only a legendary dancer and choreographer but also a storyteller who conveyed the struggles, triumphs, and spirit of a community through her movements. Her contributions are forever etched in the history of dance, and though we lose her physical presence, her legacy will continue to inspire, uplift, and educate generations to come. Our deepest condolences go out to the dance community, and all touched by her guidance and artistry.

Judith Jamison's spirit will live on through the lives she touched and the art she created. 🕊️💐

We are heartbroken by the news of the loss of the brilliant Michaela Mabinty DePrince, a true inspiration to many. Her grace, resilience, and unmatched artistry touched the lives of countless dancers and audiences around the world.

Michaela showed us the power of resilience through movement, a beacon of hope for Black dancers who saw their dreams reflected in her journey. The dance world has lost a rare and beautiful spirit far too soon. Her legacy will continue to inspire future generations.

Today, we honor Juneteenth, commemorating the emancipation of the last enslaved Africans in the U.S. in 1865. This day is a testament to resilience, hope, and the relentless pursuit of freedom.

But what does freedom look like today? For us, freedom is the ability to express our identity and creativity, embrace our culture, and celebrate our heritage. It’s the power to stand strong in the face of adversity and to lift each other up as a community. It's one of the many reasons why Baltimore Black Dance Collective was created.

As Black Dance Artist and esteemed ancestor Katherine Dunham once said, "Go within every day and find the inner strength so that the world will not blow your candle out." Let's shine brightly and dance towards a future filled with equality, love, and unity.
